In a bold post-season move, Toronto Ultra has signed rookie SMG sensation Abe to their starting roster, filling the gap left by the departure of Ben “Beans” McMellon. Alongside the signing, veteran SMG Tobias “CleanX” Juul Jønsson will be transitioning into the Flex role, signaling a strategic shift for the team heading into the Esports World Cup and beyond.

Abe, one of the breakout stars of the 2025 Challenger circuit, has quickly made a name for himself with his aggressive playstyle and fast-paced map presence. His standout performances throughout the season, including multiple Elite tournament showings and a deep LAN run with his Challengers squad (Top 4 at Dreamhack, Top 6 at Challenger Finals), caught the attention of CDL franchises—Ultra acted quickly to lock him in.

This roster move follows Ultra’s decision to part ways with Beans, who joined the team prior to the 2025 season but struggled to find consistent footing during the Black Ops 6 season. With team dynamics and performance in flux, the organization is betting on Abe to inject new energy into the lineup and elevate their slaying power.

Perhaps even more notable is CleanX’s move into the Flex role, marking a significant adjustment for the long-time SMG star. Known for his relentless pressure and pace, CleanX has been a fixture in Toronto’s fast-entry style since the team’s rise in previous seasons. However, his versatility and high game IQ make him a natural fit for the Flex position, offering Toronto more adaptability across game modes.

The new-look roster is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the Ultra camp as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing Major IV showing. With a rising star in Abe and a proven veteran adjusting roles, Toronto is making it clear: they’re not just rebuilding—they’re reloading.
