As the Black Ops 7 season heads into the final Stage of the season, I wanted to take a step back and highlight the newcomers who’ve made the biggest impact so far. In this piece, I’m breaking down my top four Rookie of the Year candidates to this point in the season & why they’ve separated from the rest of the pack, how they’ve shaped their teams’ success, and what they still need to prove down the stretch. From stat monsters to hoisting a Major trophy, these are the rookies I believe have defined the Black Ops 7 season thus far.

1) Jeremiah "Nium" Harrison - LA Thieves

Overall K/D: 1.00
Hardpoint K/D: 0.98
SND K/D: 1.00
Overload K/D: 1.04

Nium joined the Thieves after Major 1 and has slowly but surely improved the team step by step. It hasn't been instant success, but over time the Thieves have become a well-oiled machine, and much of that improvement can be attributed to Nium. He may not be the rookie with the best numbers, but he definitely has the hardest role right now, trying to get three superstars on the same page while also ensuring he is not slacking off. This past major, it seems he has finally found the balance. On Championship Sunday, he was my personal MVP. Having won both a major and a minor, Nium has to be the Rookie of the Year so far.

2) Nicholas "Kips" Lyons - Toronto KOI

Overall K/D: 1.03
Hardpoint K/D: 1.02
SND K/D: 1.14
Overload K/D: 1.00

Kips has impressed everyone since his debut with Toronto, turning the team around from a roster that looked lost and struggled to win maps into a consistent top-four contender. He has achieved third place in the last two events. Based on the numbers, you could argue that he’s having a better season than Nium, but that recent win gives Nium the edge. Nonetheless, there’s still everything to play for heading into Major 4.

3) Nicolas "Traixx" Monaco - Miami Heretics

Overall K/D: 1.00
Hardpoint K/D: 0.99
SND K/D: 1.09
Overload K/D: 0.97

Traix joined Miami after star player Reeal unexpectedly decided to join Toronto KOI. Traix was relatively unknown at the time, having had a solid Challenger season but nothing outstanding. However, after a rough start to the season, he has consistently impressed on a personal level. The team has experienced ups and downs this season, struggling on LAN for the most part, yet Traix has always stood out. While it’s unlikely he can catch the top two players, a Cinderella story at Major 4 could give him a chance.

4) Logan "Lurqxx" Brown - Carolina Royal Ravens

Overall K/D: 1.06
Hardpoint K/D: 1.12
SND K/D: 0.89
Overload K/D: 1.02

Lurqxx has faced one of the toughest challenges for a rookie. Normally, such situations can hinder a rookie’s ability to showcase their true talents, but he has proven to be an exception. Despite the lack of results, he has ensured that people recognize his skills. It wouldn’t be surprising if, after this season, he finds himself on a roster competing for Sundays at events.
