Cloud9 New York has officially parted ways with Marcus "Afro" Reid, with the SMG player announcing that he has been released and is now an unrestricted free agent. The decision comes amid ongoing roster uncertainty for Cloud9, as the organization continues to evaluate its direction early in the Black Ops 7 season.

Afro joined Cloud9 New York with expectations of bringing explosive pace and proven LAN experience to the lineup after having a terrific bounce-back year in European Challengers. While the team showed flashes of potential, consistency was elusive, and results never fully materialized. Despite the outcome, Afro was arguably the best performer on the squad. He finished with a team-high 0.94 Overall K/D with an 83.5 Slayer Rating and 0.96 respawn K/D. Afro struggled in Search & Destroy, finishing with just a 0.82 K/D in the mode, but was better in Hardpoint.

Now back on the open market, Afro becomes one of the more intriguing free agents available. His ceiling is well-documented, and in the right system, he has shown the ability to apply pressure and create plays. While a move to another CDL team seems unlikely at the current moment, Afro will be one of the best prospects to watch later in the season.
